Running to the base of Mount Cook, New Zealand

During my junior year of college I found this really cool program called Pacific Challenge- an adventure study abroad program.

It was basically 2 months of outdoor adventures and backpacking New Zealand and Australia.  We would study on our own and then meet professors in each city for lectures and tests.  Not a bad deal.

feeling the pain

A couple weeks ago while trail running in Winter Park, I twisted my ankle so badly I was unable to continue running, let alone walk down the trail back to the car. Luckily my husband was with me so we alternated between him carrying me and me hopping on one leg the 3 miles back to the car.

Along the way we found a fresh mountain spring that I decided to soak my ankle in to reduce the swelling. It was late May and there was still snow on the trail. I thought I had…
